The Proposal
Oh, the proposal...
What an amazing night, well weekend really, but it's really about that one Friday evening...July 1st, 2012.
Jarrod had been preping me for some time, like 2 weeks or so. He told me he wanted us to go out to dinner and an evening of "just us." He said he wanted to go somewhere really nice and have a really nice dinner. The plan for the rest of the weekend was to go with his cousin (also my friend), Melissa and her two boys, and us and Austin, to Wet 'n' Wild both Saturday and Sunday and stay in a hotel overnight since it's about 45 mins away from home. He also asked Mel and I to NOT tell the kids because he wanted to surprise them-this was HIS surprise!
He told me to pack an overnight bag in case we decided to stay where we were going Friday night, and to also go ahead and pack for Saturday and Sunday, because we wouldn't have time to go all the way home, and Mom would be taking care of the doggies for us. Oh, and I was going to need a change of clothes and shoes for Friday night, along with a nice outfit for Saturday night because he wanted to take us all out to a restaurant Saturday night too. Seriously?!
So that is exactly what I did. I packed for Friday, Friday overnight, and Saturday and Sunday at Wet 'n' Wild. I also packed Austin's bag, which I had to hide from him because of it being a "surprise weekend." I went and got snacks for the hotel, and was prepared, just like he told me to be! He told me to be dressed and ready to go by 4:30 pm...on a Friday?!
We went and dropped Austin and the food off at Mom and Dad's house, and were on our way, however, I had no idea where we were going, but I did enjoy the ride. When Jarrod exited the freeway at Indian Bend Road, he asked me if I knew where I was. I said, "well, it's a casino..." We parked the car in the parking garage, then went into the Casino. What I haven't told you yet, is I decided to wear his favorite shoes this particular night, lime green patent leather 4 inch Jessica Simpson stilletos, so I "click-clacked" through the casino, then the hotel, until we came to a man standing in front of 2 elevators.
He asked if we had a reservation, which Jarrod said we did, at Orange Sky Lounge on the top floor of Talking StickResort & Casino. They took us back to a private, high-back, leather booth, that overlooked the city. We had an amazing dinner and shared a wonderful bottle of wine. I will never forget the marscapone cheese spread for the bread...yummmm. After dinner we sat in the private bar only for those with reservations, and had a couple of drinks, while looking out over the city. I also forgot to tell you, when we left the house, Jarrod told me that he would be looking at his watch alot, because everything was timed out for the evening. Um...ok!
We left Orange Sky, and went to the casino floor again, by this point, I was regretting the shoes...they are NOT made for walkin'. Jarrod guided me to the front enterence of the casino, where a Town Car and driver were waiting for us. He drove us for about 15 minutes, and we arrived at the Hyatt at Gainey Ranch. We went inside and Jarrod ordered us a drink, which we took outside (in the blazing hot night) to a little cabana and sat for a bit. Then he told me it was time to go, so he walked me past 3 gorgeous pools, and used a key to go into a gate. When we went through, a bellman was behind us and went past us, with..."wait? what's that? THAT'S MY LUGGAGE!" "No honey, it's not." "Yes, it is! Jarrod, how many people have a brown with pink polka dot rolling case?" "Um...yeah, you are right. Only you would have something like that."
We walked up one flight of stairs, around a corner, then we ran into some guy, Jarrod called him Kasey (which I later was told was a "code" word), and up a few more stairs. And there it was...CANDLES, FLOWERS, CHAMPAGNE, and CHOCOLATE COVERED STRAWBERRIES. All of this over looking the lit up glass columns in the pool below, with mountains in the background and a little lake below. We sat down and Jarrod poured us both champagne, we ate chocolate covered strawberries, which to me, was quite strange...JARROD DOESN'T LIKE STRAWBERRIES!! But apparently ANYthinG covered in chocolate is ok in his book!
And then...came the beautiful speech that had us both misty-eyed. And the ring...OMG the ring! While it was quite dark and I really couldn't see it, once I did...blown away! We just hugged and kissed and it was just heaven. He reminded me to eat the strawberries, we finished the champagne, and in the meantime, he told me, "we are not going anywhere." And me being a little tipsy, and slightly dense said, "yeah, we probably shouldn't since we have been drinking." He said, "Babe, what I mean is we are staying here until Sunday." "Wait. What? No Wet n Wild?" Nope...we stayed right there...well kinda. We went back downstairs and walked in the door of our King-Size private Cassita...OMG! You have to see this place...the pictures I took don't come close to the amzingness of it. As I walked around it utter amazement, I noticed roses...single, long-stemmed roses, all around the cassita. And on them, he's attached, written notes, in his own handwritting, of 12 reasons he loves me. SO SWEET!! And of the 12, I have a favorite, both for it's sweetness, and also for the joke I made out of it. "Your Voice." "Awe babe, you like it when I sing?" "Ummmm, no, but I love hearing your voice. It makes my day. And your singing, yeah, not so great." (Mock hurt)
Once we got settled, and changed in to comfy clothes, I got the "Hadges Hiccups." You know, the ones that tell you that you may have had a little too much to drink?! Yeah-those ones! So Jarrod suggests we go get something to eat. So we do. We head up to the lounge area in the hotel lobby, and have a seat, just to find out all the kitchens have closed for the evening. Ugh, but a nice cocktail waitress came by, asked if she could get us a sandwich, and in the process spilled her wine glasses on me, and breaking one as it spilled...ON ME! I told both her and Jarrod, "I'm fine. No worries, it's just...wet...and glass." Needless to say our iced tea, diet coke, and sandwich were on the house. But I was so far up on cloud nine, I didn't care, it didn't even phase me!
And once again...the ring! OMG the ring! I couldn't stop starring at it. We took a couple of pictures, and it is at that point that I realized...

I wore my freaking PJ's to the lounge of the hotel! Good thing I was too tipsy to notice at the time! However, this is probably one of my most favorite pics from the entire weekend. We are so blissfully happy here and so natural, so us! I love it!
I have to tell you, Jarrod, well see, he's just amazing. A total romantic at heart. I knew it was coming, and I even had a hint it might be that particular night, but he surprised me with the thought and time and everything he put into it. And why did he do it? FOR ME! For the memories! I have one amazing man on my hands and I plan to spend the rest of my life showing him how much I love him, because we just saw how he can show me how much he loves me! On Februrary 18th, I get to marry this man, my best friend, my rock, my love. I cannot be happier, and I cannot wait! On that day, I will be the luckiest girl in the world, and I will relish the fact that at the moment I say "I DO" I get the distinct pleasure of being a this man's wife! Proposal Weekend |
